New Lobby ComputersThe five "new" computers along the right-hand wall and two "new" computers in the middle closest to the side entrance, now enjoy full Internet access with a shared printer. Two similar computers next to EDD's fax machine does NOT as yet enjoy Internet access and can't print either. The last day ... of the "old" Career Center was Friday, 27 Jun 2008. The county packed its bags for Watsonville EDD leaving only a very small part time staff at the Career Center. ETS available by appointment only. The WIB's agreed to keep some minimal presence at the Career Center for the next fiscal year. Cruzio is sponsoring Wi-Fi connections for some donated computers for the lobby expected late July. Santa Cruz Adult School providing one staff to help folks. EDD computers remains in the lobby center for job search but little else.

Yippy! Wi-Fi is Here!We now enjoy Wi-Fi Internet access. Connect using the SSID "SC Adult School Cruzio Hotspot" as seen in your "Available Wireless List" and when asked use "scasCH08" as the passcode. (Technically the connection type is WPA-PSK/TKIP which is very secure.) Only late model Wi-Fi (2005(?) or later) devices are able to use the connection. For everyone's security, please insure your computer is actively using security software (anti-virus, firewall) and operating system updates are current.
Wi-Fi Printer Access
Here's the Windows XP setup for the lobby's Dell laser printer: Start | Open Printer & FAXES | Add Printer select Network (radio button) and type in the textbox \\SANTA-CECB3EC45\ and before you finish typing, a drop down appears with full name of the printer. Select the drop down value and click next. Windows now warns and asks for confirmation to download the software for the printer, click next. Answer NO when asked to make it your default printer. In most cases the added printer is available immediately. Occasionally, restarting your computer is needed for the added printer to work. Other flavors of Windows Add-a-Printer are slightly different so your mileage will vary.
General MeetingsWhereas the General Meeting is an important networking event for PROFILE and attendance is a fundamental PROFILE requirement, the PROFILE Office is closed to all including Desk Volunteers during General Meetings. Workshop Sign-up - REMINDERWorkshops are subject to cancellation if minimum sign-ups aren't confirmed by 3PM the day before. So be sure to sign up EARLY for the workshop you wish to attend.
