Sometimes inspiration comes from the most surprising places. I was attending a Meetup on Social Media in San Jose Wednesday when the speaker mentioned someone in the audience who has developed the “30 Second Introduction.” Afterward, I met with Anthony Lee, co-founder and president of Coeur Values and his concept is simple: “I believe ______.” “You can count on me ________.” You want people to remember you as you go out in the world and Mr. Lee’s concept seems quite powerful. Right here, I will give it a try: I believe social media is a great way to foster a sense of community among PROFILE’s members. You can count on me to provide the content on PROFILE’s social media channels that will to inspire, illuminate and inform you on your mission to secure your next job.”
I can see this type of introduction being helpful in interview situations. To find out more about this concept, download a copy of “the First Conversation” at www.CoeurValues.com. By the way, I’m not endorsing this business and I have not used its products.
The second bit of illumination this week came from Ken Winters of HireWire.org who spoke as PROFILE’s guest speaker last Monday. As an HR professional and recruiter, he provided lots of illuminating advice about the job search process and how to prepare an effective resume. He also said that people who don’t have a picture on their LinkedIn profile run the risk of getting overlooked.
This leads me to another point: If you don’t have a LinkedIn PROFILE picture and need one, Maribel Cuervo has agreed to take one for PROFILE members after next Monday’s general meeting in one of the PROFILE’s conference rooms. I urge you to make an appointment.
Speaking of informing, the site CareerRealism.com has two compelling, short articles with advice on how to tune up your resume. This first is entitled Is Your LinkedIn Profile Holding You Back? It also offers a piece called “4 Ways To Edit Your Resume Like A Professional Resume Writer.” This one actually offers a free resume review.
So please check out those links and let me know if there is any content that is compelling and you would like to share it with the rest of the PROFILE members. Send an email my way at Profilesocialmedia@gmail.com.
